It is shown that the particle inertia can cause a tearing instability in
an electron-positron collisionless plasma with sheared magnetic fields.
An approximate analytical expression for the growth rate is obtained. It
characterizes the magnetic reconnection timescale in a magnetized
electronpositron plasma.
