Opik's statistical method of repeated meteor counts is based on the hypothesis that the number of meteors seen by an observer is equal to the expected value of the product of the probability of that observer observing the event times the number of meteors of a given brightness appearing in the observation region. It is also assumed that the random events consisting of the meteor observations of two different observers are independent. A hypothesis testing scheme based on Fisher's theorem is proposed to determine whether the first of these hypotheses is satisfied in a given observation set.
