The paper considers some questions pertaining to the solution of radiative-transfer problems in the general case of incoherent scattering. Different ways to represent the redistribution function as a bilinear expansion are examined along with the advantages of using them in numerical calculations and the accuracy of the approximation for the redistribution law. The existence and uniqueness of the solution to double integral equations in certain function spaces are discussed, and the corresponding spaces for proximity of the solutions to the initial and truncated equations are estimated in terms of metrics. Numerical results concerning spectral-line profiles arising during diffuse reflection from a semiinfinite medium are presented which illustrate the effects of the different approximations for the redistribution law on the final result.
