Scientific paper

Recent progress relating to the investigation of the large-scale structure of the universe is examined, with attention given to pancake theory, the three-dimensional model of galaxy clusters, and the cellular structure of the universe. Two problems of particular importance are noted: the need to develop a more detailed theory of galaxy formation, and the need to explain how and why fine structure arises in parallel with large-scale structure. The need to investigate the nature of so-called empty regions (as opposed to clusters and superclusters) is also mentioned.
