The metrology applied during fabrication of the 3.5 m primary mirror of the New Technology Telescope (NTT) for the European Southern Observatory (ESO) is described. Issues discussed include optical specifications of the NTT; measurement of the radius of curvature; functional control of the manufacturing support; IR-interferometry; VIS-interferometry; results for the primary and the full optical train; and improvements of VIS-interferometry for astronomical mirrors.
