The most detailed review of observational tests for antimatter is that of Steigman (1977), which is often accepted as providing an adequate demonstration that there is no antimatter in the universe. However, it is argued in the present paper that the data may be subject to a reinterpretation which is not inconsistent with the existence of substantial amounts of antimatter. In particular, a model of screened annihilation processes is discussed.
