Earth Atmosphere: Refraction
Scientific paper
The author proposes the complete astronomical refraction formula useful for space technology and astronomy. Another main topic of this paper is devoted to show the actual accuracy of the new astronomical refraction formula with radiosonic data, in which the coefficients of the new continued fraction mapping function have been adjusted by numerical integrals along the paths of signals. The introduction of the mapping function of astronomical refraction may greatly improve the accuracy of computation in comparison with the conventional series expansion method. In comparison with radiosonic data, the accuracy of the formula is about 1″at elevation 5° and about 5″at 2°.
