A galactic model is described that is used to predict contributions to the 2.2 micron background resulting from various classes of celestial objects. Initially, this model is fit to the Caltech Two-Micron Sky Survey to extrapolate to fluxes below the survey completeness level. Contributions to the 2.2 micron background due to main sequence stars and external galaxies are shown to be significant at faint fluxes and are included in the model. Extinction from interstellar dust grains is also included and exhibits a considerable effect on the background at these fluxes. Suggestions are also made for future work.
