A technique to improve the efficiency of low energy or large zenith angle observations with a single imaging atmospheric Cerenkov telescope (IACT) is presented here. The method was developed using simulations and archival Crab Nebula data taken with the Whipple 10 m telescope. Improvements in significance of over 30% have been achieved and the method is fully applicable to a stereoscopic array. This technique could prove to be a particularly useful tool in the current trend towards lowering the effective observable energy regime of ground based telescopes to coincide with the early results of the GLAST satellite over the next few years.
