An assumption that most published lead age distributions (usually ) * > t( are participants of age patterns of the Rhodesia type points to the conclusion that the majority of all recommended lead ages, including * estimates, are underestimates. The extent of underestimation should depend in the first place on the degree of internal disagreement, and secondly on which age ( or other) had been recommended. The net effect is a distinct expansion of the lead age scale as a whole. For specimens participating in the Rhodesia pattern, where t = age and a and b are constants; several specimens of Witwatersrand uraninite appear to participate in a similar relationship. For atomic ratios rather than calculated ages, the relationship appears to hold ( N = number of atoms ). Varying lead deficiency has been suggested as the cause of the Rhodesia pattern, and the sign of constant b ' above and in an equation involving indicates a lead isotope deficiency order of 208 > 207 > 206. A deficiency of 207 > 206 is the reverse of that indicated by the age relationship of . The apparent anomaly is due to the nature of the age equation itself and to the fact that (i) the half-life of U 235 is much less than the half-life of U 235 and (ii) because the deficiency of 207 is not verymuch greater than that of 206.
