The ESO Next Generation Archive Service [NGAS] is a combined hardware and software solution to the problem of archiving the large amounts of data produced by modern instruments. Whilst NGAS is proprietary to ESO, it would be of benefit to the Virtual Observatory to provide a standard interface to access the contents of NGAS.
The proposed VOStore {http://www.ivoa.net/internal/IVOA/IvoaGridAndWebServices/vostore-0.18.pdf} interface most closely matches the facilities provided by NGAS, and this poster presents the lessons learned in creating an implementation of this interface. In particular, the architectural design and implementation constraints are discussed, and some suggestions for clarification of the VOStore standard are made.
The prototype implementation described here is taking part in an interoperability demonstration (performed by K. Noddle et. al.) at this conference
