We will discuss multiple experiments in our laboratory in the last year in relation to the properties of Enceladus, many with application to other icy regoliths.
1) dependence of sublimation on the aggregation state. 2) adsorption, trapping and desorption of atmospheric gases which have been treated independently, but should be considered as a competition that takes into account the heterogeneity of the surface, and effects of ion irradiation and redeposition. 3) New ion impact effects, such as ice compaction, segregation / aggregation of mobile species in ices, episodic bursts with the formation of blisters and exfoliation of blister covers. These processes affect the surface chemistry, the optical reflectance, and the exosphere. 4) The enhanced trapping of radiation products due to the redeposition of implanted or evaporated molecules. 5) The competition between amorphization and crystallization from heterogeneous terrain. 6) The effect of micrometeorite impact mixing in enhancing the depth of the layer affected by irradiation.
