Spectra for the northwestern arm of the spiral galaxy NGC 1566 are presented. Extinction and line-ratio maps which were calculated from the spectra are analyzed. The behavior of various line ratios along the length of the spiral arm, and the relationship between N II/O II, and S II/O II forbidden line ratios and the metal-abundance index forbidden O II + O III/H-beta are studied. It is observed that the extinction map does not show any systematic behavior and reddening is about 2.0 + or - 0.3 mag. The data reveal that there are spatial variations of about 100 pc in the metal-abundance index forbidden O II + O III/H-beta and the variations are due to such factors as varying the effective temperature of the exciting stars and changing the ionization parameters.
