The gravitational lens effect for multiply imaged quasars is considered for various mass distributions in the lensing galaxies. It is shown that the presently observed statistics of maximum separations are not in strong disagreement with predictions based on these realistic lens models after some account is taken of the observational limitations of present searches. It is also shown how these image separations may be used to place certain constraints on various properties of the lensing objects and their distribution in space.
