By analyzing spectral energy distributions of galaxies detected in the HDF images we have been able to determine redshift estimates and to identify a significant number of candidate galaxies at very high redshifts. The distribution of the galaxies in redshift, magnitude and size provides detailed information on their evolution, which can be used to severely constrain scenarios of galaxy formation and the related cosmological parameters. Galaxy modeling that we have done to date strongly favors an Einstein-de Sitter cosmology {Omega=1, Lambda=0}, although further evolutionary scenarios need to be explored. The morphological classification carried out so far by Ellis, van den Bergh and collaborators on the HDF images can be extended to fainter magnitudes and is expected to yield a visual time-line of galaxy formation. This proposal seeks significant improvement in the database used for these studies. We propose to carry out full pixon reconstructions of the entire HDF images, done directly on the dithered exposures, to provide about a factor of two improvement in resolution, giving detailed views of forming galaxies on scales 0.05 arcsecs with good S/N, corresponding to linear scales < 250 h^-1 pc. The reconstructions will also improve image-noise separation leading to significant improvements in photometry. Accurate photometry is crucial in order to pinpoint the redshifts, determined by computing the effect of the Lyman limit and Ly-alpha and Ly-beta forests on the spectral energy distributions of different galaxy types.
