Scientific paper
The paper describes the Faint Object Camera (FOC) for image processing which complements the NASA Space Telescope for the 1983 Shuttle launch. The data processing for removing instrument signature effects from the FOC images is discussed along with subtle errors in the data. Data processing will be accomplished by a minicomputer driving a high quality color display, with large backing disk storage; interactive techniques for selective enhancement of image features will be combined with standard scientific transformation, filtering, and analysis methods. Astronomical techniques including star finding, will be used and spectral-type searches will be obtained from astronomical data analysis institutes.
