For non-science students, who may not be familiar with the way astronomers visualize problems and make measurements, classroom demonstrations can be a valuable adjunct to slides, diagrams, and oral explanation. In recent years I have tried to develop demonstrations to reinforce concepts that my students find particularly troublesome. One demonstration illustrates to students how the phases of the moon come about, and reinforces the notion that celestial phenomenon look different from different frames of reference. The other is a handy and effective way to demonstrate spectra in a large classroom or lab section. This paper will feature live demonstrations.
