THE likelihood of organic contamination of the lunar samples obtained in the Apollo missions has been pointed out repeatedly1-4. Rocket exhaust, terrestrial atmosphere and those manufactured materials which might have come in contact with the lunar samples at one time or the other during collection, transport, preliminary examination, and distribution are the generally accepted sources for contamination introduced previous to analysis. One of the materials being used in the programme is the York mesh3,4, used as a packaging aid in the Apollo lunar sample boxes.
