The Imaging Proportional Counter (IPC) detector on the Einstein satellite had a field of view of approximately 1 square degree and a spatial resolution of approximately 1 arc minute. During the course of observations with this instrument, a large number of previously unknown sources have been discovered within the field of view of other, preselected targets. A systematic search has been conducted for the optical counterparts of these X-ray sources. About 80 fields have been examined so far, and optical counterparts have been identified in approximately 40 of these. The present investigation is concerned with the identification of one of the sources, designated E 1551+718, with a previously uncataloged dwarf nova.
