The 6667.4-A, 6701.3-A doublet observed to be in emission in the spectra
of late-O supergiants is identified with the Si IV 5p 2Po-5d 2D
transition on the basis of the observed wavelengths, intensity ratios,
and theoretical non-LTE predictions. The emission mechanism is discussed
qualitatively.
