The large double radio source B2 0924+30, associated with the galaxy IC 2476, has been studied as a possible example of an object whose central engine has ceased to be active but whose extended lobes have not yet faded from view. Such 'dying' sources are expected to exist if radio galaxies have a finite active lifetime but no clear examples have yet been reported. The observations were designed to search for areas of low surface brightness emission with steep radio spectra and to put strong limits on the presence of radio cores, jets or hotspots. In IC 2476 no evidence was found for continuing energy flow from an active nucleus, and any radio cores or jets it may possess are at least two orders of magnitude weaker than are commonly detected in sources of comparable total power.
