We present an in-depth study of an Iapetus mosaic of VIMS data with high spatial resolution. We use a statistical clustering technique. We find seven clusters with different spectral characteristics. Carbon dioxide appears widespread and is not solely confined to the dark areas. Its characteristics suggest formation on Iapetus and complexing in clathrates.
