Nine IUE spectra of RR Tel in the wavelength range from 1200 to 3200 A are discussed. It is shown that the most prominent spectral features are extremely strong and sharp emission lines, both permitted and forbidden, that 411 lines with various degrees of ionization are present in the spectra, and that there is no evidence for photospheric lines. No apparent correlation is found between line width and excitation, nor is any significant difference in width observed for lines from permitted and forbidden transitions. It is tentatively concluded that the observed UV spectrum of RR Tel might be produced in a nearly steady-state and highly inhomogeneous envelope irradiated by an extremely hot central star.
