Behaviors of redox sensitive elements (e.g., Fe, Mn, S, U, Cr, Ce) in
hydrothermally altered submarine volcanic rocks of Archean ages suggest
that the O2 and SO4 contents of ocean water and the atmospheric O2 level
have been essentially the same since at least ~3.5 Ga.
