Profiles of spectral lines in dense plasmas experience a significant Stark broadening. If there is also a magnetic field in a plasma, the analysis of the resulting line profiles becomes very complicated. Polarization difference contours obtained by subtracting two profiles of two orthogonal polarizations seem to be the most suitable diagnostic tool: plasma and field parameters can be more easily deduced from pronounced structures in the difference contours. It is shown that the difference contour of the central Stark components of hydrogen spectral lines can be used for a highly accurate measurements of the magnetic field, in particularly, in laser fusion plasmas, in the solar photosphere and in the chromospheres of flaring stars.
