The third conference on hydrogen-deficient stars featured a rich, treasure trove of results. The evidence has been accumulating that the loss of hydrogen in the late stages of evolution of many types of stars in the HR diagram results from either (1) the merger of white dwarfs, if at least one component has a core of helium, or (2) a late or very late helium shell pulse. These may combine to make a separate channel for the formation of hot, helium-atmosphere white dwarfs. A bigger mystery is the origin of the small sample of white dwarfs with carbon-dominated atmospheres. The progenitors of the cosmology probes, the type Ia supernovae, remain perhaps the most important, unsolved problem of stellar evolution.
