We present a detailed examination of the components of the 2MASS J08503593+1057156 and 2MASS J17281150+3948593 multiple systems based on resolved near-infrared photometry from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and unresolved near-infrared spectroscopy from IRTF/SpeX. To determine component spectral types, spectra from other stellar and substellar objects of known spectral types were used as templates and combined in pairs to match the spectra of the binaries. The constraint for matching pairs was given by the difference in relative magnitude between the components as measured with HST. The results indicate that 2MASS 1728+3948 may be composed of mid-type L and late-type L brown dwarf components while 2MASS 0850+1057, surprisingly, is likely to be a triple system with nearly identical mid-type L components. The latter source joins a growing list of compact, hierarchical, very low mass triple systems that may form through fragmentation or dynamical processes in the earliest stages of star formation.
