We present preliminary results of the HST/ACS Grism Parallel Survey (HST GO/PAR 9468) to study the galaxy formation and evolution. A total of 30 high galactic latitude ``random'' fields (340 ′ 2) have been observed, each with grism integration time > 100 min.
Taking advantage of the ACS capabilities of exceptional spatial resolution of 0.05″ /pixel and high sensitivity at the spectral range of 6000-9500 Å, we have obtained low resolution spectra (40 Å/pixel) of various extragalactic sources. The sample has provided some new results, the most noticeable of which is the detection of ˜ 700 compact emission line galaxies at z < 1.6, with significant emission features (4σ limit of ˜ 2 ṡ 10-17 ergs/s/cm2). Using their Hα , [Oiii] λ 5007Å, or [Oii] λ 3727Å emission lines we estimated redshifts and absolute fluxes. Additionally, the sample of ˜ 1000 early type galaxies were compiled. The remaining several hundred objects are UV-excess, and candidate Lyα galaxies at high redshifts. For the classification we used both, the cross correlation of the object spectrum with template spectra, and the analysis of the direct image. Finally, we discuss the measurements of co-moving star formation rate density versus redshift and present the luminosity function for detected galaxies.
