The Spitzer Space Telescope's sensitivity to the mid-infrared emission from the warm dust surrounding young stars has resulted in maps of Milky Way star forming regions of unprecedented depth and scale. Since its launch in August 2003, Spitzer has surveyed most of the nearby star-forming clouds within 2 kpc. The spatially extensive and statistically robust samples now available allow us to determine global properties such as star formation rates and efficiencies, disk frequencies and timescales for evolutionary stages, and the morphologies of young embedded clusters. I will review results on the nearest low-mass star forming regions from the Cores to Disks and Gould Belt Legacy surveys, and from various GTO and GO programs covering massive star formation in nearby spiral arms.
