Applying the author's extrapolation procedure to a summer and a winter
set of midlatitude nighttime digital ionograms the uncertainty of the
upper edge of the EF-valley is found to be up to 10 km but has no
noticeable effect on the peak altitude determination. The retardation
near fmin is 12 to 30 km.
