We will present new results on hot gas in galaxies ranging from our nearest neighbors M31 and Centaurus A to more distant systems in the Virgo cluster which Chandra has been able to study in considerable detail. We will discuss the galactic (including nuclear) source contribution to the integrated emission and spectra of these galaxies and describe the spatial distribution of the galactic population and the hot gaseous components. Several of the galaxies e.g., Centaurus A, have interesting radio sources which interact with the surrounding gas. We will present Chandra observations showing the details of the interaction. For the thermal (gas) components detected in each galaxy, we will present gas mass, temperature, heavy element abundance, and dark matter profiles. For M86 (NGC4406), we will present detailed Chandra observations showing the effects of ram pressure and the stripping of the gaseous halo as the galaxy falls into the Virgo cluster. Finally, we will compare the mass and abundance distributions from galaxies to those for galaxy groups and clusters to better understand the formation and evolution of the mass distributions in collapsed halos and the production of heavy elements over cosmological times.
