Rocket-sounding data on the horizontal component of the quasi-static
electic field at heights of 50-90 km are presented. High values of the
horizontal component of the electric field strength in the mesosphere
(up to 5 V/m) are reported. The density of the horizontal conduction
current amounted to 10 to the -9th to 10 to the -8th A/sq m.
