We present a study of the smoothness of the diffuse light (DL) in cD clusters A2670 & A2029. On large scales, the DL follows a de Vaucouleurs' profile as far as it is traceable. Measurements of fluctuations per pixel indicate that the DL is likely to be numerous low luminosity objects (<= 10(3) solar units). Autocorrelations of residual images (after the DL has been subtracted) allow us to probe small scale fluctuations to a sensitivity of ~ 0.05 % of the DL. We also report a null result in the search for wakes in A2670 (the gravitational response of the medium due to a galaxy's passing) associated with galaxies in the cluster center, which would give us a handle on the galaxy's tranverse velocity. Finally, we point out the apparent paradox of the smooth DL profile and the large peculiar velocity of the cD (especially in the case of A2670) or any potential subclustering.
