Scientific paper

The paper deals with an experimental study of hollow cathode discharge
lasers employing cadmium, zinc, mercury, and thallium vapors excited by
means of microsecond current pulses. The performance of these lasers at
visible wavelengths is examined. The threshold gain and peak power
values are determined, and some limiting factors are discussed.
