An account is given of the goals and achievements of the Japanese Hiten lunar-trajectory probe mission; this encompassed an excursion to the L4 and L5 Lagrangian points, where the gravitational influences of sun, earth, and moon mutually cancel each other out. Hiten also demonstrated the aerobraking maneuver in order to successively lower its apogee altitude.
