A solar luminosity index extending 460,000 years into the past is
computed from ocean surface temperatures derived from the geologic
record. It is estimated that the Sun's luminosity fluctuated between 2%
above to 5% below the current value over this period. The index shows
pulses occurring at intervals of 75,000 to 120,000 years.
