Photometric and spectroscopic abundance results for solar type G dwarfs in the Hyades are compared. Positions of 10 Hyades dwarfs in an HR diagram are compared with theoretical grids of zero age main sequence stars (ZAMS) computed with varying helium and metal abundances. The use of Hipparcos satellite trigonometric parallaxes to locate the Hyades dwarfs on their ZAMS is considered. Photometric abundances are higher than spectroscopic ones, possibly because photometric color indices taken from the Sun are wrong. Theoretical ZAMS-HR location and photometric results suggest a lower He/H ratio for the Hyades compared with the corresponding field stars. However, HR positions are too inaccurate for determining helium content, so the order of magnitude accuracy increase provided by Hipparcos is required.
