We present new high resolution observations of the intense He I 1083 micron emission line in Eta Car, and compare with the H-alpha and P-gamma profiles. The line is characterized by a very strong emission peak, split into two components by a central absorption, and by two high velocity absorption lines at -590 and -1040 km/s. The latter is in agreement with the general expansion rate of the circumstellar nebula, and suggests that part of the stellar wind of Eta Car is presently accelerated up to velocities similar to those of the matter ejected by the star during the bright phases of the last century. The results are discussed in the framework of the continuous mass outflow model.
