The paper reports photometric observations of the Cygnus X-2 optical candidate with 0.1-s resolution. Power spectrum analysis of data obtained on two different nights when the object was faint shows no evidence for rapid variability. A 3-sigma upper limit of 0.15 per cent of the mean optical flux is derived for fluctuations with periods between 0.2 s and 10 min.
