High speed photometry of GK Persei during the last 1983 outburst is presented and discussed. On September 12 a 360 + or - 7 s periodic modulation with an amplitude of approximately 4 percent was detected. This is the optical counterpart of the 531 s periodicity detected by Exosat during the eruption. The August observations show an approximately 400 s periodic modulation and a long term approximately 0.8 h variation. A long term modulation of similar time scale was also present in the X-ray data. Although the nature of this long term variation is not yet clear, the possibility is discussed that it gave rise to the 400 s modulation by some beat phenomenon with the 351 s periodicity.
