The authors obtained high-resolution echelle spectrograms of the peculiar T Tauri star DR Tau. Most observed emission lines show surprisingly narrow and regular profiles. The stronger Fe II lines have redward-displaced (YY Ori) absorption components. As in other strong-emission T Tauri stars only the intrinsically weak photospheric lines occur in absorption. Nevertheless, the photospheric contribution to the observed light is significantly stronger than predicted by theoretical models proposed for the DR Tau system.
