The aim of the thesis is the development of observing techniques with the high resolution echelle spectrograph SOFIN, optimal reduction methods, and their implementation. The thesis describes the spectrograph and its model together with investigation of its performance in terms of limiting magnitude and resolving power, the CCD performance and its optimization, mathematical aspects of spectral deconvolution and practical applications, and finally, the detection of a two-spot feature in a HgMg star Alpha And.
