Results are reported for high-resolution observations of the nonthermal radio disk of M51 at a wavelength of 6 cm. Questions investigated include the internal structure of the continuum arms, the origin of the nonthermal radiation, the structure of the inner nonthermal arms, the value of the shock strength, and the spectral index at different points in the galactic plane. The position of the continuum arms is compared with the positions of the H I arms observed at 21 cm and the H-alpha arms. It is found that: (1) the nonthermal radio arms follow the dust lanes down to a distance of less than 1 kpc from the nucleus; (2) the H I arms do not seem to prefer either side of the continuum arms; (3) the H-alpha arms are systematically on the outer side of the continuum arms; (4) parts of the ridges along the 6-cm and 21-cm arms have a flat and spatially uniform spectrum which steepens further away from the nucleus; (5) the observed 6-cm flux is, on the average, 10 times stronger than the expected thermal radio flux derived from the observed H-alpha peaks; (6) the continuum contrast is less than four; and (7) no large-scale polarization is observed at a level higher than 32%.
