We present high-resolution optical spectroscopy of a large sample of weakline T Tauri stars (wTTs) in support of infrared observations scheduled with the Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF). Sensitive photometry at wavelengths up to 70 μ m will target wTTs associated with the Chameleon, Lupus, Ophiuchus, and Taurus star-forming regions under the Legacy program: From Molecular Cores to Planet-Forming Disks. SIRTF observations will determine if these stars have circumstellar disks intermediate in mass between that of accretion disks around classical T Tauri stars and debris disks around older stars. To understand factors which may affect disk masses, we are obtaining high-resolution Echelle spectra of our sample with the CTIO and KPNO 4m telescopes. Stars were selected on the basis of published youth indicators such as ROSAT and Lithium detections. The spectroscopic observations confirm the lithium indicator at high resolution and enable us to measure other properties of interest to disk evolution. These include emission lines such as Hα , the frequency of spectroscopic binaries, and rotational velocities. Preliminary results are presented here. Together with SIRTF legacy data, all spectra will be made available to the community upon completion of our survey.
