The nucleus of the extended radio source 3C 236 was observed for 10 h with a three-element VLBI system at 1610 MHz. The fringe spacing ranged from 0.05-0.16 arc sec. The nuclear structure at this resolution consists of three relatively bright compact features embedded in low level emission. The alignment is basically that defined by the outer lobes of the source, with the possible exception of the southeasternmost bright component, which may be offset from the overall alignment by a small amount.
