Lunar-occultation and interplanetary-scintillation observations of the double radio source 3C 33 at 327 MHz are presented. The occultation observations with a resolution of 2.6 arcsec, which is nearly 100 times smaller than the total extent of the source, have revealed fine structure similar to that found in Cygnus A. A faint continuous bridge connecting the two components has also been detected. A scintillating object about 0.5 kpc in size, which is nearly 700 times smaller than the component separation, is found to be located in or near the southern compact component and may be a product of fragmentation of the component due to fluid-dynamic instabilities. The object is likely to be a transient phenomenon because of its high internal pressure as compared with the ram pressure of the medium.
