We propose to obtain high-resolution spectra of interstellar absorption lines toward stars which will be observed for interstellar molecular hydrogen by the PI team for the FUSE mission. FUSE will obtain spectra in the 912 - 1175Aregion of some 35 stars lying behind translucent clouds (A_V in the range from 2 to 5 magnitudes), at a spectral resolving power of (lambda)/(Delta)$(lambda) between 5000 and 30,000, for the purpose of obtaining H_2 column densities. The high-resolution optical spectra we propose to obtain (using the coude feed with Camera 6) will be used to help interpret the lower- resolution FUSE spectra (by providing information on the line- of-sight velocity structure), and to supplement information on atoms, ions, and other diatomic molecules, providing us with more complete information on the composition, chemistry, and physics of the observed sightlines.
