In September 1994 we temporarily reconfigured a KPNO facility IR camera into a high resolution, high speed mode dubbed the Diffraction Limited Infrared Imager (DLIRIM). Working in the L' band on the KPNO 4-m, we obtained diffraction limited image cores with high Strehl ratio despite very unstable atmospheric conditions. This experiment demonstrated the capability of the site and telescope and helped define the requirements for future facility instruments. We describe the experimental configuration and we present results characterizing performance at multiple wavelengths.
