A new cylindrical ionization chamber filled with high pressure xenon (55 bar) is described. The detector is characterized by the energy resolution of 4 percent FWHM at 662 KeV for the optimal parameters of gas mixture, applied electric field, and shaping time. This high-pressure Xe chamber can be used in space studies, ecological monitoring, geophysics, and geology.
