SuperDARN coherent backscatter radars in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres provide line-of-sight measurements of bulk plasma drift in the high-latitude ionospheres with a wide spatial coverage at a 2-min time resolution. We utilize this dataset to investigate general characteristics of ionospheric velocity variability when the upstream solar wind drivers are relatively stable. Spatial maps of variability are compared under differing solar wind driving conditions and are compared with global patterns of convection. Inter-hemispheric and dipole tilt dependencies are also considered. These spatial maps and their dependencies on various interplanetary and geophysical parameters allow the velocity variability to be put in context of other measurements and help advance our understanding of the sources of variability.
